Therapies-OMA Spa

Omã, Sanskrit for life-giver, is our exclusive spa. And our massages and wraps do send our guests back feeling much more alive than before. Our signature therapies, made from the purest botanical extracts soothe, relax, invigorate, and draw the tension out of each muscle, ever so slowly. Ancient Eastern remedies and the latest Western ones - Swedish or Ayurvedic or Reflexology - they combine under trained fingers to ease the toxins right out of your body.

Built seamlessly into the forests around, we reserve half our land for the wild. For the shy deer that peer through your window, for the wild squirrels that dart by, the astounding birds who swoop around and for the elephants.

Destination

The Bandipur National Park is part of the massive Nilgiri biosphere, home to some of the most endangered species of wild life, the majestic tiger being its poster child. Watered by 4 rivers - the Moyar, Kabini Moolehole and Nugu, Bandipur is an area so close to nature and its creatures that venture into its heart is one of the most beautiful you could ever set upon, and to actually stay overnight, under the canopy of stars, is in one word-unforgettable.

Driving right through the wildlife park is an opportunity not given to many, and once you make your way on the path rolling across the hills and dales through patches of forest – right up to The Serai’s gates, you enter a world apart.

The Serai lives up to its image of luxuriant sophistication – every tiny comfort of yours taken care of. The finest of fittings along with spotless interiors, international standards of workmanship – all balance alongside local art work – like the stone rubble work on the walls – and the endearing thatched roofs.

The Serai has been built seamlessly into the forests around. Over 100 different species of trees have been planted across the property–both flowering and fruit trees.Flame of the forest, amalaki, singapore cherry, bamboo, sandalwood, mango, guava, papaya, bougainvillea – to keep the land as natural as possible. The walkways too are unique – with leaves and ferns permanently imprinted in the concrete. Across the property, little thatched cottages arise – spread out over wide spaces – and at sundown, a bonfire crackles in the centre, calling all our guests to come and share their stories of the day. Complete quiet, a star-spangled sky, breeze through the wild grass and bamboo thickets, the smell of night flowers, the blue hills towering around, the calls of peacock and the occasional visit of a cluster of spotted deer – this is the life that awaits.

Jungle safari

Land safari into the tourism zone of the National Park are conducted twice a day. A qualified naturalist accompanies you on every trip to help you interpret the exotic flora and fauna of the region.

Nature walks

Getting up-close to nature is fully experienced only when you venture out and feel the emotions she exudes. Learn everything about the flora and fauna of the region from our naturalists who will lead you on the trail.

Bird watching

Bird watching in Bandipur is an excellent pastime with over 300 species of birds being recorded here.

The Bandipur region is dominated by deciduous forests, but you can also find patches of scrubs around the periphery as well as a lot of cultivation around the area. The backwaters of the Bandipur act as a huge water body attracting a wide variety of water birds. Even when the river recedes, it leaves isolated pools of water that attract a multitude of birds as fish are trapped in them.

Some of the birds that can be found in this region are the Osprey, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Malabar Pied Hornbill, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Malabar Trogon, White-bellied Woodpecker, White-rumped Shama and the Plum-headed Parakeet.

Bycycle trail

Our resort is located on acres of swaying palm trees and lush, tall grass (home to dozens of different birds) and a good way to explore it would be on a bicycle

Star gazing

One of the nicest things about a resort in the wilderness is the beautiful clear sky above. We provide a telescope and with the help of our trained naturalists, you can embark on a cosmic trip and discover the mysteries that lie beyond our planet.

Bonfire

We have bonfires at our resort every evening where you can huddle round and let our naturalists entertain you with jungle yarns. Sip a drink. Greet your fellow guests. Make new friends.
