Ettukettu, the Speciality Restaurant

Ettukettu, the multi-cuisine, 115-seat restaurant owns the place of pride at the Kumarakom Lake Resort. A princely eight-sided mansion with 2 central courtyards, the Ettukettu bespeaks of the grandeur of yesteryear Kerala’s regal architecture. Commissioned by the King Marthanda Varma as a gift to his favoured martial arts tutor, Edamana Kellamthat Gurukkal, the mansion was built with all the magnificence of the homes of the nobility of those days. The Ettukettu had been dismantled from its original location and relocated in all its glory at Kumarakom Lake Resort, and is today dedicated to the culinary arts as it once was to martial arts.

Set in the midst of the resort, it has a well-appointed bar that suits all tastes and a wide and varied choice of delicacies. The Continental, Chinese, Mughlai, North Indian and traditional Kerala culinary delicacies at the Ettukettu are a gourmet’s delight, but the speciality to look forward to, is ethnic Kerala cooking. The fresh catch of the day, rich coconuts and a slew of fragrant spices lend the cuisine its very own flavour. Specialties served include Syrian Christian Duck Roast, Duck Curry, Karimeen Pollichathu, Karimeen Mappas, soft spongy rice bread called Appam, Thamarappam, Idiappams (string-hoppers), etc. besides tropical fruits, vegetables and cereals.

Vembanad, the Seafood Bar

A seafood bar unlike any other, the Vembanad is set by the banks of the placid backwaters. It offers the perfect rustic ambience to suit the typical Kerala seafood cuisine, as one basks in the view of a glorious sunset. The menu includes anything and everything in seafood, with a dedicated chef in constant attendance.

Thattukada, the Traditional Tea Shop

A traditional teashop recreated in its original, rustic splendour. The boiling vessel that constantly spews aromatic steam, the cluster of garden fresh bananas that hang by coir ropes, the open frying pan, the aroma of freshly fried local snacks, the easy camaraderie…

And this rich legacy lives on, as the Ayurmana stands with pride as the renowned Ayurveda spa of equally befitting calibre. The exquisite ‘Nalukettu’ or four-sided mansion had been transported in its entirety from its original location to the Kumarakom Lake Resort, and had been recreated with careful detail and expertise.
