History
Kasmanda Palace, one of the oldest buildings of Mussoorie was originally a part of the Christ Church Complex, which was built in 1836 by Captain Rennie Tailour of the Bengal Engineers. It subsequently became a Sanatorium for the British forces and during the latter part of the 19th century, was one of the first schools to be set up in Mussoorie. In 1915 it became the summer retreat of the royal family of KASMANDA.
In the year 1992 the royal family converted the Palace into a ‘Heritage Boutique Hotel’.
The township of MUSSOORIE came into formal existence in the 1820’s. The first building to be erected here, were done by, Mr. Shore and Captain Young.
The name MUSSOORIE is said to be derived from the Mansur shrub (cororina nepalensis), which is found in the Himalayan foothills. MUSSOORIE from the time of its inception has been a favourite summer resort for the Indian royal families, who wanted to get away from the sweltering beat of the plains. Thus there were beautiful palaces of the Rajas and Maharajas of Baroda, Indore, Rampur, Kapurthala, Kasmanda, Pratapgarh and Katesar to name a few. Of these, the Kapurthala Chateau, Katesar Castle and the Kasmanda Palace Hotel still remain in all their regal splendour.
Interestingly, MUSSOORIE has also been the home of the ex-Amir of Afghanistan, the Ranas of Nepal and even the son of the legendary Maharaja Ranjit Singh of the Punjab. Mussoorie, set amongst forests of Pine and Oak trees and lovely waterfalls is an ideal getaway place throughout the year. So come and enjoy a peaceful holiday at Kasmanda Palace, a Welcome Heritage Hotel.
