AVN Holiday Networks presents Coconut Lagoon....

There are so many facets to the Coconut Lagoon experience. The heritage of the old fuedal villages of Malabar. The vast frolic of the Vembanad lake. The shimmering waters of the canals that criss-cross the property. The flavour bursts of Kerala home-style cooking.

Together, they are a celebration of harmony, life and natural beauty that touches every sense and takes you into a world still unsullied by modern ways.

Coconut Lagoon is located in the Kerala district of Kuttanad, or the land of the short people. A wag has it that this name came about because the folks here are always knee deep in paddy fields.

Be that as it may, more than 8 of Coconut Lagoon’s 30 acres are actually given over to rice cultivation. Not quite what you’d expect from a holiday resort? Well, sit back, relax and explore. You’ll find much that defies easy definition.

  • Explore life on the backwaters
  • Visit the bird sanctuary and farms
  • Learn to cook with spices
Village Expedition
Explore the area on foot, take a walk to the nearby village. The path to the village runs alongside paddy fields and waterways, and provides more than casual view of local life. The ideal time for such a walk is late afternoon. A naturalist will accompany you at 4.00pm.

Cultural Programmes
Everyday at 7.30pm cultural programmes will be held in Kalithattu near restaurant. The common arts performed are Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Ottumthullal, Bharathanatyam and classical music.

Kalarippayattu (6.00am-7.00am)
Witness the traditional martial art of Kerala, India’s own system of medicine, physical culture and self-defense. It is the only form of the ancient martial art still in existence.

Backwater Cruise
A relaxing boat trip through the maze of canals adjacent to Coconut Lagoon is a fascinating experience, and a delightful way to get a closer look at life in the backwaters.

Sunset Cruise
Punted by two boatmen equipped with long bamboo poles, the boat glides silently out across the water as flocks of teals and other migratory and other resident birds return to their lakeside roots in such thick formations they cloud the evening sky.
